Alexandra’s Clock on the Hill is an iconic landmark overlooking the Central Otago town of Alexandra.

Built in 1968 by the local Jaycees as a community project, the large illuminated clock sits on the Knobbies Range (Bridge Hill).

It measures 11 metres across. The minute hand is 5.6 metres long and the hour hand is 4 metres long; each hand weighs about 270 kg.

The mechanism is driven by an electric motor, and the face is lit at night (originally by 150 bulbs, later upgraded to LEDs, including colour lights).

The idea was proposed in 1966. After public consultation and a strong vote of support, volunteers completed the work in a few months.

It was officially started by the mayor on 14 December 1968.

A short but steep walk (about 30–60 minutes return) leads up from town, crossing the historic Shaky Bridge and climbing past a vineyard. From the top, you can see panoramic views of Alexandra, the Clutha and Manuherekia rivers, and the surrounding mountain ranges.
