Brave Brewing Co: Hawke’s Bay Craft Beer Story 

Brave Brewing Co was founded by Matt & Gemma Smith, driven by a true passion for quality craft beer. Matt’s home-brewing hobby began in Auckland, inspired by the exciting craft beer scenes they experienced while travelling through the United States and Europe in the early 2000s.

The couple’s big breakthrough came in 2013 when Matt won Champion Home Brewer at the New Zealand Home Brew Championship. This success gave them the confidence to turn their dream into reality, so they moved back to Hawke’s Bay.

Starting small, they sold their beers at the Hastings Farmers’ Market and local venues. Their beers quickly gained popularity and earned regular recognition at the New Zealand Beer Awards. As demand grew, they needed a bigger space.

In 2020, Brave Brewing found the perfect home in the lively Tribune Precinct in Hastings CBD. They created a modern brewing facility paired with a welcoming taproom and eatery. Today, it has become a popular community hub where locals and visitors gather to enjoy great beer and good times.
