Highlands Motorsport Park

Highlands Motorsport Park is a fun and exciting place for car lovers near Cromwell, New Zealand. It sits only 45 minutes’ drive from Queenstown, making it easy to visit from the adventure capital. The park opened in 2013 and quickly became one of the best motorsport spots in the South Island.⁠

The main feature is a 4.1km racing track. It has many turns and changes in height, so it feels challenging and fast. Professional drivers use it for races, but visitors can enjoy it too. You can do hot laps in fast supercars, drive a V8 muscle car yourself, or race go-karts on the 650-metre outdoor track. There are single karts for adults and tandem karts so kids can ride with an adult.⁠

Highlands also has the National Motorsport Museum. Inside, you can see amazing cars up close – from classic racers to modern supercars and even a Formula 1 car once driven by Michael Schumacher. It is a great way to learn about New Zealand’s motorsport history.⁠

Other fun activities include an 18-hole mini golf course with a motorsport theme and the famous “Loo with a View” – a toilet with one of the best views in the area! There is also a café where you can relax, eat, and enjoy the scenery of the surrounding mountains and lakes.⁠

The park was built on a large piece of land for about NZ$25 million. Australian businessman Tony Quinn bought it and made it into the world-class facility it is today. Whether you want to watch racing, drive fast, or just look at cool cars, Highlands Motorsport Park offers something for everyone. It is a perfect mix of speed, history, and family fun in beautiful Central Otago.
