Rapid Jet Boats - Taupo

Rapids Jet Taupō is a popular white-water jet boat experience on the Waikato River, about 15 minutes north of Taupō (near the Aratiatia Dam).

The Ride

It is a 35-minute high-adrenaline trip in powerful custom-built boats (500-horsepower Chevy V8 engines). Drivers take you:

  • Up to the base of the Aratiatia Rapids (New Zealand’s biggest and longest rapids, released from the dam)
  • Through the narrowest canyon on the Waikato River
  • Into the powerful Nga Awa Purua Rapids (the biggest commercially jet-boated rapids in the country)

Expect fast runs, pressure-wave surfing, tight turns and the classic 360-degree jet boat spins. You may also spot Taupō trout and enjoy views of native bush and geothermal features. Some film locations from The Hobbit are along the route.
