See the first sun in the world

Mount Hikurangi is where the sun first rises on our planet each day. 

Two hours' drive north of Gisborne will get you there. On the summit you will arrive at a place called Te Takapau-o-Maui which features 9 Māori carvings that depict stories of Maui. You will get to learn about his origin and feats. 

The views are spectacular and panoramic.

On the way back stop at the small settlements of Tolaga Bay, Tokomaru Bay, Te Puia Springs and Ruatoria.
