Te Anau Gloworm Caves

Te Anau is the gateway to the Fiordland National Park with a lake full of Rainbow and Brown Trout.  

Situated 2 hours west of Queenstown or 2 hours Northwest of Invercargill it's a great place to visit. 

The Glowworm Caves are a system of limestone caves on the western shore of the lake.

In 1948 Lawson Burrows using clues from old Māori Legends found the entrance after a 3-year search. By cave standards they are a young 12,000 years old and as a result still being formed from the pressure of flowing water. 

To get to the caves you take a cruise across the lake and then take a path and small punt.  The excursion takes little over 2 hours to complete.

Te Anau is a vibrant town of about 3000 people with numerous restaurants and other tourist activities to do, all the while looking at the magnificent views in every direction.
